The lake on the crater of the 1911 eruption is often refered to as the sulfur lake. True enough, you can see and smell sulfur all over. The rocks are coated with the yellow sulfur.
It is okay to swim on the lake. The local people claim it has medicinal properties that can heal various skin problems. Temperatures of the water vary greatly however, depending on where you swim. There are portions of the lake that are pleasantly warm, while there are parts that are steaming from heat from volcanic activity underwater.
